Biotechnology is a term that was coined
in 1919 by a Hungarian agricultural engineer Karl Ereky. He coined this term
because he foresaw a time when biology could be used for converting raw
materials into useful products. This term describes the merging of biology with
technology. A number of pharmaceutical
companies have realized the importance of biotechnology. Today, there is a
growing list of biotechnology products in the market. Some of these products
include medicines, medical equipment, biofuels, biomaterials and pollution
controls.
The entire field of biotechnology is
diverse and the pharmaceutical companies are reaping the results if this
science, specially the companies dealing in medicines. Biotechnology medicines,
also known as biotech medicines are large molecules that are similar or
identical to proteins and other complex substances are medicines that body relies
on to stay healthy. Generally these medicines are injected or infused into the
body to ensure that the complex structure is protected from being broken down.
